About Us
We are a local, independent congregation of Christians, defining ourselves as being saved by the grace of God through faith, having been baptized into Christ for the remission of sins, and now faithfully committing our lives to Him (Eph. 2:8).
The New Testament teaches us that Christ established His church during the first century AD (Matt. 16:18; Acts 2:47). This local congregation can trace its beginning back to the 1940’s when a group of people decided to follow the New Testament pattern in their worship to God and united themselves in oneness of faith under the oversight of elders (Tit 1:5; Acts 20:28; I Pet. 5:2)
As a local congregation here in Danville, we strive to serve the Lord as best as we can by modeling our efforts by those things taught in the New Testament. Our efforts can be summed up in the following areas:
Saving the lost
We actively support the preaching of the gospel in this area, in other areas of the United States, and overseas. We have fellowship with brethren who preach in Central and South America. We have also supported men who make special trips overseas to preach and/or strengthen local Christians. Locally we conduct weekly Bible studies at our downtown coffeeshops, as well as outreach through social media via #DanvilleDaily.
The congregation also works to develop young men who have a desire to be evangelists via short term or long term preaching internships. Many men have benefited from this opportunity over the years.
We do not use entertainment as a means of drawing people to Christ. We believe the drawing power of the gospel is sufficient to properly influence the good and honest heart. We believe that entertainment is a duty of the home, not the church.
Keeping the saved, safe
The teaching program has always been a high priority for the Danville church. Faithful men and women of this congregation take an active part in this work.
Our Bible classes are for every age and learning level. Our children's classes are geared to supplement parents in teaching their children in the knowledge of the Lord (Eph. 6:4).
We offer a week long vacation Bible Study in the summer as well as a children summer study series both aimed at providing an additional opportunity for them to grow and learn about God, Jesus, and the Bible.
Twice a year we invite the community and Christians from around the area to a special series of studies that we refer to as a “gospel meeting”. Generally they are a more focused study of Biblical subjects and/or issues and topics designed to provide us with a better understanding of God, what kind of people we should be, and His plan for us now and into eternity.
Serving others
We understand that as Christians we have a duty and responsibility to help our families, our members, and other Christians elsewhere in their physical struggles and challenges. As individuals we know that in doing so we are serving our Lord as we serve others (I John 3:17).
What to expect when you visit us
Following the New Testament pattern, we assemble together on the first day of every week to partake of the Lord's Supper and to sing, pray, teach and give of our means. The giving of our means is an act of worship for the members here so that the work of this local church may continue. As our guest you will not be asked for a contribution nor are you expected to give one.
Our worship is directed towards God, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is what we give to God following the pattern set out before us in the teaching of the New Testament.
